How long is the service life of PVC doors?

As a cost-effective door and window category, the service life of PVC doors is restricted by multiple factors. Understanding the key influencing factors can help users more scientifically evaluate their use value and reasonably plan the replacement cycle.

PVC Door

Material quality is the foundation of life. The door body made of virgin PVC resin has a stable molecular structure and excellent anti-aging performance. With calcium zinc stabilizer (instead of traditional lead salt stabilizer), it can maintain structural stability for more than 15 years at room temperature. Inferior door bodies are made of recycled PVC materials, which contain many impurities and are prone to low-temperature embrittlement and high-temperature deformation. The service life is usually no more than 8 years. If the internal skeleton is galvanized steel plate (thickness ≥ 0.8mm), the impact resistance is increased by 60% compared with the paper-filled door body, and the service life is extended by 5-7 years.

The impact of the use environment is significant. In the dry northern regions, PVC doors generally have a lifespan of 18-25 years due to stable humidity; in the southern rainy regions, if waterproofing is done during installation (waterproof strips are installed at the bottom of the door frame), the lifespan of bathroom doors can reach 12-15 years, otherwise it is easy to get stuck due to moisture, shortening it to 8-10 years. In high-temperature environments (such as kitchens near stoves), high-temperature resistant PVC doors (temperature resistance ≥80℃) need to be selected. Ordinary doors will bubble on the surface after being baked at high temperatures for a long time in 5-8 years.

The matching degree of hardware cannot be ignored. High-quality stainless steel hinges (load bearing ≥8kg) extend the service life of the door body by 3-5 years compared to iron hinges (easy to rust); magnetic locks reduce door panel collisions and reduce the risk of deformation compared to ordinary mechanical locks. Data shows that the proportion of premature scrapping of doors due to hardware damage accounts for 30%. Regular replacement of wear parts (it is recommended to replace hinges every 5-8 years) can extend the overall lifespan.

Daily use habits are also critical. Avoid slamming the door hard (impact force ≤ 50N is appropriate), do not hang heavy objects (single door hanging weight ≤ 2kg), and promptly repair small cracks (fill with PVC special glue). These details can reduce structural damage. Comparative tests show that PVC doors that are used in a standardized manner have a lifespan 8-10 years longer than doors that are frequently operated in violation of regulations.

On the whole, the reasonable lifespan of PVC doors is 10-25 years. Choosing the right product + proper maintenance can fully meet the long-term use needs of homes and commercial places. It is an ideal choice that combines economy and durability.
